Who Really Drives The Future Of Global Business?
For years, companies have looked to the MBA’s and the Lawyers to control the direction of business. As we enter what is referred to as the “conceptual age”, many of the “left brain” thinkers that helped society move from the Agriculture Age (farmers) to the Industrial Age (factory workers) to the Information Age (knowledge workers), will not be ones to lead as the world moves into the “conceptual age”.
The right brain folks who often times have been marginalized in many companies are seemingly the only part of a companies brain trust that can not be outsourced to Asia where many of the “left brain” values can be executed far more efficiently and for far less money. In the book, A Brave New Mind, by Daniel Pink, he discusses how abundance, Asia and automation, the three A’s are making much of what the “left brain” thinkers are responsible for in business marginalized. He goes on to explain why in this day and age, dynamic and creative “right brain” thinking is really what will drive businesses and economies going forward.
The ability to be a random thinker as opposed to a logical thinker is no longer of greater value. To be intuitive and not sequential with your thinking and to be subjective and look at the whole as opposed to being objective and looking at the parts is now more than ever extremely valuable as society continues to move through the conceptual age. I agree with Daniel Pink that the thinkers and the “right brain” people are the real assets that companies have going forward and they need to not only compensate them properly but give them the support they need to come up with the new ideas that will protect their businesses from the ever encroaching three A’s of Asia, automation and abundance on their companies bottom line.
