The right and wrong way to travel

It is a special treat when we are able to travel and stand face to face with new people and enjoy new experiences, so we must try not to waste the opportunity. With the current state of change, and more cultural inclusion on the horizon, there is a need for an adjustment in the way we approach our interactions with others and where we seek inspiration. Without a change in mindset, you run the risk of your thoughts and ideas being irrelevant. There is a right and wrong way to approach travel.

The wrong way:

- Do not “colonize” your travel destination.

This mode of travel disregards the existing culture. This type of traveler tends to stay within the confines of their beach resort, taking advantage of the value of their currency over that of the local currency.Their main interaction with the indigenous people usually has something to do with placing orders with the poolside waiter. This type of traveler tends to Keep their head in their book while spending endless hours tanning. They are more focused on looking like they went away rather than experiencing a new environment.

The right way:

- Open your eyes, mind, and heart and don’t put ketchup on everything

- See,smell, taste and experience what the locals do and how they do it

- Leave your home approach at home and take on a different energy and curiousity level when you travel.

Some dive in all the way and put all they need in a back pack and find the least expensive means of travel, food, and lodging. This may include staying with a local family, on campgrounds, in hostels, or sleeping on the beach. This is a great way to save money and experience a new culture, but some of us prefer an upgrade in accommodations. One great resource for visual insights on the road is our travel blog at http://diverseplaces.com . Read some of the stories from Lombok,Yemen, Cambodia, Morocco and a special piece called 9 Hours in Narita Airport in Tokyo.

You should look at travel as expanding your resources and adjust the way you approach your excursions with this in mind. There is nothing wrong with getting away to recharge your batteries, but you should take advantage of the opportunity and knowledge that a new destination can provide. Keep in mind the wealth of insight that can be gained when you approach travel the right way.
