Shelter

Seeing a simple house like this in an impoverished part of Capetown reminds us of how far removed from the concept of shelter our current notion of home has become. Homes are no longer simply places to keep the rain and cold out. They have become a big part of the American Dream, places of extreme comfort that reflect tastes and personalities, even to the point of defining self-worth. During the current economic climate when many are being forced to downsize to more modest housing, people are being reminded of the original role of housing.
