In our search for trendsetting pre-teen kids, we’ve noticed time and time again that in the vast majority of cases, the parents of these kids are also trendsetters. Makes sense when you think of how most little kids love to emulate their parents. So if you want to locate influential kids, start with their parents.

Another observation — you’ll find a disproportionate share of trendsetting adults in black communities where resources are limited and privilege harder to come by, because the need for creative survival skills and ingenuity is much greater. Which means if you want to find the young kids who are influencing others, your best bet is to look in the neighborhoods where you’ll not only find the leading edge parents, but the cool, trendsetting kids as well.
