A father’s love

In many developing countries, especially Arab countries, you’ll find the roles of men and women to be much more separate and distinct than in places that are seemingly “more developed.”  Men assume the traditional “masculine” role of being the provider and women tend to be in charge of childcare and housekeeping responsibilities, the more typically “feminine” tasks.  What is striking, however, is the incredible tenderness you will often see between men and their small children.  In this photo taken in a big, bustling square in Marrakech, Morocco, we see a man offering his small son some freshly squeezed orange juice while putting a very protective arm around him.  While men here tend to focus on traditional masculine activities, it doesn’t preclude them from showing warmth and affection in very public ways.  A good example of how stereotypes often don’t hold up to further scrutiny.
