A fresh perspective on inspiration
This first time voter is wearing a t-shirt that reads, “Obama says knock you out,” a play on rapper LL Cool J’s platinum selling song, Mama Said Knock You Out. We have never seen this level of enthusiasm from black youth around a presidential election until the Obama campaign. T-shirt makers from Harlem to Compton jumped on the enthusiasm around the election as an opportunity to make products that speak to the tastes of this emerging group. This generation is feeling empowered and inspired by the developments taking place around them. Marketers that are innovative should tap into this enthusiasm and figure out a way to profit from the rise in awareness and sense of value and pride that is sweeping the generation.
