Cockfight

While cockfighting, complete with razors fastened to the cocks’ legs and a practice of fighting to the death, may seem like a barbaric sport to many, it’s important to understand the context.  Many cockfighting cultures are ones in which pets are a foreign and peculiar concept – animals are either beasts of burden,transportation, or a much needed source of food.  In the case of cockfighting, it’s not only a community sport in which one has an opportunity to win money.  It’s also often a source of food, because the losing cock is then cooked and eaten, sometimes right on the premises.  Before we judge, we must consider the circumstances.  Otherwise it would be like the anti-fur activists blaming the cavemen for wearing animal skins!
